Our Organic Heirloom “Utah 52-70 Tall Improved” Celery seeds were introduced by Ferry-Morse Seed Company in 1953. This sweet celery grows tall with long ribs, has a deep green color and does not need blanching. It is disease resistant for Brown Check, Western Celery Mosaic and Fusarium Race II.
The 1968 Buckerfield Seed Co. describes it as having, “Edible stems 9 to 11 inches. Plant larger but just as compact as Utah 15. The best organic celery on the market.”

Planting Tips For Heirloom Celery Seeds:
Start indoors 12 weeks prior to transplanting outdoors. Use sterile, fine soil and very lightly cover the seed. Do not plant too deep. A tip is “to use a flour sifter or large tea strainer and gently shake a coating over the seed.” Keep soil moist at 75 degrees. Seedlings will emerge in 2-3 weeks. In 8-12 weeks when 5” tall and the weather temperatures have stabilized, transplant into a moderately acidic soil area in your garden using plenty of organic compost, kelp & bone meal mixed in with soil. Bolting can be caused when nighttime temperatures get below 55 degrees, so do not transplant too early. Consistent watering is essential and add organic fish emulsion and seaweed every two weeks until harvest.
